Chris Byrne, DPM
Dr. Byrne is a 1986 graduate of the University of California at Santa Barbara and completed his graduate medical studies with high honors from the California College of Podiatric Medicine, in 1991. He went on to complete his surgical residency training at Straith Hospital for Special Surgery in Detroit, Michigan as well as Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Oakland, California.
Prior to relocating to San Luis Obispo, Dr. Byrne had practiced in Portland, Oregon for the past eight years at the Portland Clinic as well as Healthfirst Medical Group. His is the former section Chair of Podiatric Surgery at St. Vincent Hospital in Portland and has been actively involved in the Legacy-Kaiser Hospital Podiatric Residency Training Program, in Portland.
Dr. Byrne has been married to his wife Deanna for twenty three years and has two children Brendan and Jennifer. He has enjoyed volunteering with his wife in support of YOFAFO established for the empowerment of woman and children in Lugazi,Uganda. In his spare time he loves running and biking and is an aspiring triathlete.
Dr. Byrne is the team podiatrist for the Cal Poly and Cuesta College athletic programs, serves as a member of the Quality Assurance Committee for San Luis Select IPA. He is also the Medical Director for Coast Ambulatory Surgery Center, the Central Coast’s only surgery center dedicated to foot and ankle surgery.
Dr. Byrne is a medical shoe wear consultant for the retail shoe industry in the Pacific Northwest and has a strong interest in the influence of shoe design as it relates to foot function.
Dr. Byrne is board certified in foot surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.
Brandon Slade, DPM
Doctor of Podiatric Medicine
Dr. Brandon Slade attended Brigham Young University, majored in mathematics, before completing his graduate medical studies in 2008 from the California School of Podiatric Medicine at Samuel Merritt University. He went on to complete a two year surgical residency training at the Department of Veteran Affairs Puget Healthcare System in Tacoma, Washington and moved to San Francisco to further extend his training an additional year in reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery at DVA San Francisco and Kaiser Permanente Group.
Dr. Slade is trained in Podiatric Surgery and is board eligible for certification of both Foot Surgery and Reconstructive Rearfoot and Ankle Surgery. Dr. Slade has received training in diabetic limb salvage among the Veterans’ Hospitals in Tacoma and San Francisco and as well--treated sports medicine and over-use injuries of the foot and ankle with active duty soldiers at the Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma. He finds treating pathology of the foot and ankle extremely rewarding. Dr. Slade successfully treated most pathologies non-surgically through his understanding of foot biomechanics and in designing custom foot orthotics.
Dr. Slade is new to the Central Coast since joining in practice with Dr. Chris Byrne in 2011. He enjoys spending time with his two sons camping, hiking, and surfing. He volunteers time with church and community with previous extended missionary service in Bogota, Colombia. Dr. Slade is a marathon runner and recreational tennis and soccer player.
Julie M. Chatigny, DPM
Dr. Chatigny earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences from CSU, Sacramento in 1996. She spent the next 12 years working in the fields of Molecular & Cellular Biology as well as Genomics & Genetics in multiple research laboratories in Utah and Arizona studying brain, breast, and ovarian cancer as well as Valley Fever and tuberculosis. Dr. Chatigny has been a private contractor / consultant for the Southern Arizona VA Healthcare System's VA Biorepository Trust in Tucson, the Warm Autopsy Program at Sun Health Research Institute in Phoenix, and the Molecular Profiling Research Institute (now Caris Life Sciences) in Phoenix.
Dr. Chatigny graduated in 2012 from Midwestern University in Glendale, AZ with a Doctorate in Podiatric Medicine. Originally from the Sacramento valley, she and her husband Mark were thrilled to move back to California for her residency training in the Bay Area. She will be finishing a three-year residency program at Kaiser Santa Clara in June 2015, where she has received training with emphasis on elective and traumatic foot and ankle surgery, pediatric foot deformities, diabetic foot deformities and wound management, biomechanics, and medicine. The third year of training has been conducted with an emphasis on rearfoot pathology and surgery including reconstructive procedures, trauma, rearfoot fusions, foot and ankle arthroscopy, and total ankle replacements.
Dr. Chatigny is board eligible for certification in Podiatric Medicine as well as both Foot Surgery and Reconstructive Rearfoot and Ankle Surgery. During residency training, Dr. Chatigny was fortunate to travel to DaNang, Vietnam with Kaiser Permanente's Global Health Program to perform foot and ankle surgery at the DaNang Orthopedic & Rehabilitation Hospital. She plans to continue volunteering her surgical and medical skills both nationally and internationally to better the lives of others, which she finds extremely humbling and rewarding. Dr. Chatigny and Mark have four children and two grandchildren and are thrilled to be back in California to be closer to all of them. In her spare time, she enjoys kayaking and camping.
Stephen Burke, C.Ped.
Stephen Burke is a San Luis Obispo County native, graduating from Templeton High School. After graduation Stephen served his country and enlisted in the Marine Corps. Upon completing his tour of duty, Stephen worked as a Structural Mechanic for American Airlines.
With a passion for precision and construction, Stephen became a licensed contractor where he worked in the trades for many years.
During this time, he also has had an ongoing role in his wives’, Mary Ann Burke, busy North County Physical Therapy practice, assisting in the management and daily operations of this busy physical therapy practice.
Through his involvement in physical therapy, Stephen developed a keen interest in applied mechanics and physical medicine. The field of Pedorthics has drawn him into the perfect mix of precise mechanical correction and patient care.
Prior to joining San Luis Podiatry Group, Stephen completed his Pedorthic training at the International School of Pedorthics in Dallas, Texas and is continuing his ongoing education at Spectrum Orthotics and Prosthetics in Medford, Oregon.
Stephen and Mary Ann have been married 17 years and have a 10-year-old daughter, Loretta. Stephen is actively involved in Loretta’s equestrian passion of junior rodeo participation, where she competes in barrel racing and pole bending.
Stephen is a runner and competes in marathons as well as other distance events. He is a member of the Wine Country Runs board which benefits local youth sports and other charities. Stephen is a volunteer with the Paso Robles Rotary Club.
Stephen Burke works very closely with the podiatrists of San Luis Podiatry Group to fulfill all of the shoe, orthotic and bracing needs for the Group.
